STATE & NATIONAL: Tropical Storm Beryl, which was initially projected to cause significant damage along the Gulf Coast, has indeed made landfall but with less impact than anticipated. Here's the latest update on the situation
Beryl made landfall on the Texas coast near Matagorda, about 85 miles southwest of Houston, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph
Unfortunately, the storm has resulted in at least three fatalities after making landfall in Mexico and the Caribbean. More than 300,000 energy customers are without power due to the storm.
After hitting Tulum, Mexico, as a Category 2 hurricane, Beryl weakened to a tropical storm. However, it strengthened again upon entering the hot air of the Gulf before making landfall in Texas.
As of the latest updates, Beryl has weakened and is moving northeast through the state, bringing "life threatening storm surge" and heavy rain
Residents in Texas should stay informed through local news and emergency services for the most current advisories and safety information. The aftermath of the storm may still pose risks such as flooding and power outages, so caution is advised.
