California Congresswoman Waters Inquires w/Feds Chair Powell Over ‘Diversity & Employment Inclusion’


STATE & NATIONAL: This week, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters issued a few challenging comment aimed at Federsl Reserve Chair, Jerome Powell. In reference to “diversity and inclusion” Congresswoman Waters put the question to Powell, “Are you familiar with an effort in the country to get rid of diversity and inclusion?” Chairman Powell responded with his knowledge of the Fed’s concerns for the Fed’s engagement in actions involving “.. diversity and inclusion”


“I see these things mentioned, but honestly, we’re pretty focused on our task, which is maximum employment, price stability. We are strong supporters of diversity at the Fed, as you know.”— Feds Chair Jerome Powell


Powell commented that it is his impression that programs involving diversity and inclusion are quite progressive.


As she bristled at the idea that the program would be replaced, Congresswoman Waters commented in regard to her work to established the subcommittee on diversity and employment asking further whether the Chairman thought it might be a good idea to “…get rid of it.?”


Recently, diversity and inclusion programs have been ended in areas of federal government and the private sector. The claim by done does, rather, lean toward the biased narrative that Waters used racial persuasion to convince Chairman Powell to include the program in the House FSC.


Waters question Powell inquiring whether he thinks that “getting rid of the diversity and inclusion interferes with the mandate to really recognize maximum employment?”


Powell stated that his career in the private sector has put him in touch with companies and organizations that have welcomed diversity whike bringing in talented people who are willing to speak forward. The experience he has had, Powell stated, that companies he’s worked with have been successful at attracting good prople and getting g to he best work out of them Powell stated further,“That is what we’ve been doing and will continue to do.”


The Congresswomsn stated indicated that diversity and inclusion initiatives have decreased unemployment in the US. Powell agreed, “diversity and inclusion programs have been “ generally progress.”
