With a name that few could forget after having grown to become synonymous with fun-in-exercise, Richard Simmons built an empire on excited sessions during which women and men gave , st least, one hour of their concern to maintaining good looks and good health.
Not to be confused with the 1960s television workout coach, Jack Leland’s, Simmons added a touch of Hollywood sparkle and shine to what might, otherwise, have only developed as an hour long flesh-flapping sweat party.
In 1974, Simmons built his dream after making the move from his home in Louisiana to Hollywood Hills, California. Immediately following his move, the , financially fit, 24 year old shored up a fitness studio in Hollywood Hills along with what was, virtually, the first salad bar restaurant, ‘ Ruffage.’ —tge name was, however, popularized among the Hollywood elite as ‘ Slimmons. After nearly 42 of absolute success, Slimmons was closed in 2016.
Evolving in Beverly Hills Hollywood as a weight loss and fitness promoter, Simmons’ name was a favorite among the famous in Hollywood. Soon producing his own television hour, ‘The Richard Simmons Show,” the man who swept his followers off their feet with sultry demands like ’ drop and gimme’ 40” or “Sweatin’ to your Oldies” Simmons remained in the air for the next 4 years. 1980-1984.

In the years that followed, Richard Simmons produced exercise videos, announcing that , having succeeded in keeping his weight down by 100 pounds, the fitness champ stated that he helped America and the world lose 12million pounds.
By the 2000s Simmons launched subscription websites online at Facebook, My Space, YouTube and Twitter.
As the years rolled past Simmons’ life, also, slowed down , while his former work in television fitness provided a red carpet cast among the stars of Real with other cameo spots on shows like, Battlestars, Body Language, Super Password, Win, Lose or Draw, Match Game (ABC), Hollywood Squares (syndicated), and Nickelodeon's Figure It Out. Simmons was, Aldo, picked up by the daytime soap, General Hospital where he starred as a regular.
