STATE & NATIONAL: The presence of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee has remain quite recognizable in the Texas House and in Washington DC. In Houston, Texas whike reports remain unconfirmed, the city of zHouse on and its residents saddened by reports of Congresswoman Jackson-Lee’s health concerns.

Beloved by Houston residents whom they tagged “a fierce champion,” Sheila Jackson-Lee showered her community with hope that was borne out of her love for her people and for the work she accomplished that sent her back to the Texas House and to Washington every mid-term election.


Congresswoman Jackson-Lee was first elected to the Texas House of Representative in 1994 after having served the city of Houston residents as a member of the city Council. That year, Jackson-Lee defeated Democratic incumbent Craig Washington 73%-37% as well as obtaining more votes than Republican competitor, Jerry Burley, the U.S. Representative seat by nearly 73%-24%.


In her earlier years, prior to winning in Texas, the US House Representative seat, it was after she transferred from New York University that Sheila Jackson-Lee completed a Bachelor of Arts in political science at Yale University in 1972. In 1975, Jackson-Lee earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. Jackson-Lee then moved to Houston, Texas, 1987, where in 1989, she was appointed as a municipal judge for the city by Kathy Whitmire.


Throughout her career, Jackson Lee supported many progressive policies, introducing the Essential Transportation Worker Identification Credential Assessment Act in 2013 and the Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act in 2021. In 2019, Jackson Lee stepped down as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and a subcommittee in the House Judiciary.


Following a decision made concerning her political standing in the Harris county mayoral race, Mrs Jackson-Lee entered the race for Mayor of Houston, losing to. John Whitmire, 2023.


Sheila Jackson-Lee returned to Congress in March , 2024 after winning back her seat in December, 2023.


During her years as a public servant, it had been indicated that Congresswoman Jackson-Lee was suffered by a condition involving her pancrease. US Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee was 74.
