Updated: Jul 22

US & GLOBAL. In the last episodes of war violence, Israel's IDF has seemed to stand up against most of its aggressors. In this conflict with the Houthi’s, the IDF appears to be situated with a bit more difficult plight . According to the IDF and defense ministry, there are a number of reasons playing a role in the situation , including. distance, that create measures of added difficult.

By Anne M Erbynstein

The conflict between Israel and the Houthi rebels in Yemen presents unique challenges for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The Houthis operate from Yemen, which is quite far from Israel. The distance complicates direct military responses and requires advanced long-range capabilities

Routinely using drones and missiles, the Houthis have been a force with the advantage of significant range and precision. A recent Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv marked the first fatality from such an attack in Israel. These tactics require Israel to maintain constant vigilance and advanced missile defense systems

The Houthis receive substantial backing from Iran, including advanced weaponry and training1. This support enhances their capabilities and makes them a more formidable adversary.

The conflict is part of a broader regional struggle involving multiple actors, including Saudi Arabia and Iran. Political and military complexity adds layers of challenges for Israel.

Any military action in Yemen risks exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation there, which can lead to international criticism and complicate Israel’s strategic decisions

A number of these factors, combined, create a challenging and multifaceted conflict for the IDF.
