NY Police Dept CCRB Oversights Chair Arva Rice Resigns

STATE & NATIONAL: New York Mayor, Eric Adams, takes his politics power to another level renouncing the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board Chair, Avra Rice. During a recent press conference, Adams stated the reason for Rice’s resignation is the result of a matter irreconcilable difference between her office and the New York Police Department.

On Monday, a clash between the New York city’ police oversights chair woman, Arva Rice and the Mayornof New York , Eric Adams has resulted in Rice’svredignation. According to reports, Rice criticized NYPD and sought after a course of action to be taken in an effort to request more effective policies.


The report indicates that Rice requested an increase in funding that would assist in expanding the office of the CCRB. Added to the report were comments made by Rice coworkers who stated the interim Chair woman was more interested in increasing oversights involving the police force.


In her letter of resignation, Rice stated that she was pleased to have worked as a member of the CCRBand as the board’s interim Chaur. The lletter inficated that Rice cited a number of her accomplishments as being among the best efforts made by the board during her service


Rice stated that she was able to accomplishes

•. Reduced investigation times and eliminated the backlog in open investigations that resulted from the COVID-19 crisis;

• Improved transparency by publishing redacted closing reports and a report about the police response to tge protests during the summer 2020 and

• Started investigating profiling and biased police complaints


Controversy erupted during the Rice post as Chair of the New York police oversights committee, Adams stating that the CCRD Chair ‘s demands were disruptive indicating that her call for increases in oversight scrutiny was unnecessary.


The long standing controversy was centered around the differences between Adams and Rice in regard to the 2019 police shooting and killing of Kawasaki Trawick. Trawick was a 32 year old gay man who was shot and killed by police in his Bronx apartment.


Arva Rice will remain at her post as CCRD Chair until August 15.
