Police Response To Disturbance Call Ends In Shooting Death of Caller


STATE & NATIONAL: In the city of Chicago, it was about 1:20am when the police arrived at the home of Sonya Massey answering to a home disturbance call. By the end of the call Sonya Massey laid lifeless on her kitchen floor.

“Sonya Massey deserved to be safe. After she called the police for help, she was tragically killed in her own home at the hands of a responding officer sworn to protect and serve. Doug and I send strength and prayers to Sonya’s family and friends, and we join them in grieving her senseless death,” —Bice President, Kamala Harris

Police artived in the quiet neighborhood of Springfield, Illinois. The police video cam displays one officer standing g out side the home as he spoke with the resident, Sonya Massey.


For 2 or 3 minutes, Massey spoke w/ officer () as she described her situation to the officer. It was quite evident that a 2nd officer was also a respondent to the 911 call at the home of the caller.


Massey stated that she called the CPD because she thought she heard an intruder milling around outside her home. Police responded stating that they were unable to locate anyone outside the residence.


After the body cam reopened, in the visual field was the living room of Massey’s home. Both officers inside, Massey proceeded to her kitchen as one officer exchanged words in conversation with Sonya Massey.


At one point, the officer commented that Massey should turn off the over burner where a pot of water was boiling. Massey replied to the officer’s comment after he stated that she should put the water away; “away from the hot, steamy water. Massey picks up the pot, moves it to the sink and (audible sound of water being poured). stated replied stating, “I renuke you inthe name of Jesus.” The officer stated, “ You better f’ing not… I’ll shoot you in your f’ing face.”


The video cam footage became a bit distorted as the officer’s movements became a bit rapid. The officer began to yell “ Put the pot down! Put the pot down or I’ll shoot you in your f’ ing face.”


In the next moment, instead of simply walking out of the house, gun shots were heard, The sound of gun shots seemed to emanate from both officer’s fire arms. The body cam blurred the image of the person fired upon.


One of the officers left the inside ofthe house stating and chuckling,“ I’m going to get my kit.” The second officer stated, “ She’s done.


Follow-up reports have indicated that Springfield, I’ll., Deputy Grayson, has been suspended . Grayson faced a grand jury and was indicted on 3 counts of first degree murder and aggravated battery and official misconduct.


In reaction to the shooting death of 36 year old Sonya Massey, Ben Crump of the Crump Law Office, has responded to the heinous and brutal shooting murder of Donya Massey. Crump has indicated that his office will be representing the family of Sonya Massey in the law suit agsinst Officer Sean Grayson.
