US & GLOBAL: On July 31, 2024, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas and former Palestinian prime minister, was assassinated in his residence in Tehran, Iran.

Haniyeh was attending the inauguration ceremony for President Masoud Pezeshkian atthe time of his assassination. An Iranian security guard was also killed during the incident.
The cause of Haniyeh’s death is currently under investigation.
Today, there has been no information disclosing the identity of any group that has claimed responsibility for the murder.
There have been some elements of suspicion that have fallen on Israel, which had previously vowed to target Hamas leaders following the group’s October 7 attack on Israel.
As the investigation continues, details surrounding the assassination are still emerging.
