Beginning in the month of March, 2024, an investigation led by former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was requested by the city of Dolton, Illinois. according to Former Mayor Lightfoot's finding, there had been a deficit of 3.65 million dollars for which there was no record of accountability. Lightfoot confirmed that the city of Dolton was "inthe hole for more than 3and a half million dollars." Lightfoot added that Dolton officials had been spending funds and that the events were tracked by CBS news reporter Jermont Terry who followed the investigation from March 2024. Terry commented in regard to the findings disclosed by Lightfoot indicating that the entire city of Dolton is in shock over the idea that one of its officials, the former Mayor, may be responsible for the funding shortage. Providing Lightfoot's investigation disclosures, Terry commented that as of May 31st, Dolton Village General fund was calculated at 3.6 million. Terry indicated that the county does not conduct official checks and balances, leaving the county at the mercy and honor of the city leaders. Lightfoot's report indicates that among the matters that Trustees may account for is credit card spending which the former Mayor stated that it had "gotten out of hand." Also, the records indicated that, at least, two local Dolton officers increased overtime year after year--a matter that even Lightfoot found questionable as the amounts nearly doubled their salaries. The record indicated that the officers pocketed 108,000 and 114,000 dollars in overtime pay. Terry's report stated that Officer Lewis Lacey was fired after finding that his earnings were reported in excess of his regular pay about which it was indicated that in 2022, $96,000 dollars was added.

The report, also, stated that a matter of $40,000 dollars was spent on Amazon purchases made in one day, however there is no documentation of the actual purchases. Lightfoot has indicated that the investigation is ongoing and will probe further into details adding that she will be the interviewer who will speak with Henyard during such time that an FBI investigation is conducted.
