In Illinois, school worker, Vera Liddell, has been arrested on charges involving her role in the theft of $1.5 million dollars in chicken wing product(s). Charged and arraigned in an Illinois court, Liddell has been indicted for stealing $1.5 million worth of chicken wings from the Harvey School District1. Liddell was charged with theft and operating a criminal enterprise.
Liddell has been sentenced to nine years in prison. The theft was discovered after the school district’s food service department exceeded its annual budget by $300,000.
Details have not been disclosed in regard to the possibility that Vera Liddell might have had her own business operation or if she conspired with others to steal the chicken wings.
It had been reported that Liddell ordered in excess if 11,000 cases of the chicken wing product provided through the Harvey School Dustrict food service provider. The scores of excess chicken product was meant for the door dash delivery for home school students during the pandemic.
The investigation primarily highlighted her role in diverting the chicken wings for personal use or resale, but it didn’t specify if she had a formal business or accomplices.
According to the most recent report, tge thefts were committed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Verbal Liddell held the position with the HSD as Director of food service.
Vera Liddell was involved in a scheme where she ordered large quantities of chicken wings through the school district’s food service department and then diverted them for personal use or resale.
Liddell’s surreptitious chicken wing operation was part of a larger criminal enterprise she was running, exploiting her position to embezzle funds and resources from the school district.
Liddel was immediately separated from the position held in connection to her feather.
