Santos Arraigned On Fraud Charges -Expected To Plead Guilty

STATE & NATIONAL: Following his apparent plan to plead guilty during his arraignment on Monday in response to multiple fraud charges, former Congressman George Santos faces several potential outcomes.

As a result of the admission to fraud crimes, Santos could receive a prison sentence the length of which would depend on the severity of the charges and the terms of any plea deal. For the most serious charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison.


The decision made by the court will may require Santos to pay significant fines and restitution to victims. Fines are likely to include repaying any misappropriated funds and covering legal costs


Depending on the plea agreement, Santos might receive probation instead of, or in addition to, prison time.
