Texas Governor Abbott Issues Executive Order To Colleges & Universities: Fight Antisemitism


STATE & NATIONAL: On Friday, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott sends a message to colleges and universities stating that schools should remain vigilant as the October 7, Hamas attack on Israel approaches. Abbott commented, today, while msking reference to the rise in rioting between Jewish and Palestinian students stating ‘ "In light of recent events and rising tensions in Gaza, it is crucial that Texas colleges and universities stay vigilant."

In today’s efforts to reestablished the position taken by Governor Abbott in regard to the apparent near violent outbreak of rioting in Texas college and university campuses, Abbott encourages schools to reflect on his call to colleges and universities to remain vigilant In his message to Texas schools in March 2024.

In March, Governor Abbott issued an executive order to fight the increase in antisemitic acts at colleges and universities in Texas. Abbot’s order aims to ensure a safe learning environment for Jewish students and all Texans.


While there is nothing specific stated in responses from schools and their officials, the executive order requires college campuses to take tougher action against antisemitism on campus.


Abbott, however, issued an order to college officials to make careful review of their free speech policy and impose the necessary punishment for antisemitism, provocative commentary.


Contained in Abbott’s order are comments instructing school officials to ensure that antisemitic policies are upheld by such organizations as the Students for Justice in Palestine and the Palestine Solidarity Committee.


Rioting that has persisted on colleges campuses has reflected the extremities against Israel involving the war as expressed by Palestinian students.


Today, as a step taken by Texas college and university officials, Abbott has ordered Texas college officials to take their response to the extremities t protest further by assuming a role of “Zero tolerance for antisemitism in Texas.”
