US DOJ Sues Singapore Dali Owners For $100m Involving FSK Bridge Crash

STATE & NATIONAL: On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that a law suit has been filed against Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited. Today, the Singaporean companies that owned and operated the container ship Dali have been requested to pay $100 million dollars in efforts at recovering from the body of the bridge’s repairs.

According to DOJ officials, the lawsuit is in response to the crash that destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on March 26, 2024.

Reports made involving the incident state that the Dali crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge at such time that the vessel lost power while navigating through the Fort McHenry Channel. The report states that the Dali regained power, and then lost it again, causing the ship to strike the bridge. The collision led to the bridge’s collapse, resulting in the tragic deaths of six people and significant disruption to the Port of Baltimore.

The DOJ’s lawsuit seeks to recover the costs incurred by the U.S. government in responding to the disaster and clearing the wreckage, as well as punitive damages for the companies’ alleged negligence.

The lawsuit claims that the companies were aware of vibration issues on the vessel that could cause power outages but failed to take necessary precautions.

This legal action aims to ensure that the financial burden of the disaster is borne by the responsible parties rather than the American taxpayer1.
