Today, the report has gone viral involving the city of LA’s reaction to Governor Newsom’s order for the removal of all homeless and their effects .

Earlier in September, Newsom had taken a firm stance against the situation in California, with particular emphasis aimed at the overwhelming situation in Los Angeles. In that regard, Newsom issued an executive order to have the homelessness and tents encampments cleared off of city streets of LA and other cities.

Recent reports indicate that Governor Newsom’s order is being defied. Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors declared that county jails will not be used to house people removed from these encampments. They emphasized a “care first” approach, prioritizing services and support over criminalization.

Mayor Karen Bass and other local leaders have criticized the order, arguing that simply removing encampments without providing adequate housing solutions would only shuffle the problem around.

Bass has remained opposed to the Governor’s removal plan as the ongoing tension between state directives and local strategies in addressing homelessness continues.
