Kentucky District Judge Fatally Shot By Local Sheriff


STATE & NATIONAL: On Friday, the report of the apparent fatal shooting death of Kentucky District Judge Kevin Mullins in Whitesburg, Kentucky has shocked the community and the nation. According to reports, the shooting happened following an argument between Judge Mullins and Sheriff Stines.

The incident occurred in the judge’s chambers at the Letcher County Courthouse located in a tight-knit Appalachian town.


Charged with murder is Sheriff Shawn Stines. Stines was captured on security camera as he entered the judge’s chambers and opened fire.


The report indicates that Judge Mullins snd Sheriff Stines were embroiled in a verbal altercation however, there is still no information provided in regard to the cause of the argument.


Judge Mullins, who had served for 15 years, exceeded that of Sheriff Stines, who has been a two-term sheriff. Following the shooting, Stines surrendered at the scene without incident. An investigation involving Sheriff Shawn Stines intent remains under investigation.
