US President Biden Receives Supreme Court Support In Idaho Emergency Abortion Approval



STATE & NATIONAL: In New York, Attorney General, Letitia James commented in reference to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Moyle v United States case involving abortion. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled that , in the state of Idaho, emergency abortions csn be performed, legally. According to James, the fight involving abortion is “ not over.”

On Thursday, the Supreme Vourt ruled in favor of a decision, also, made by President Joe Biden who stated that in the case of emergency, an abortion cannot be prohibited by any law. The Supreme Court ruled that the emergency abortion law will stand even in 14 states that banned abortion.


According to a law that has been upheld in the aftermath of the SCOTUS decision that overturned EmRoe v Wade, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). states that doctors must perform an abortion when a woman is experiencing serious health threats.


On Thursday, following the SCOTUS ruling, Attorney General James stated, “The Supreme Court's dismissal of Idaho's petitions offers some relief for now, but we know that this fight is not over. James stated, further, those “…opposed to our bodily autonomy continue to attack our basic rights…”.


James stated that she is among throngs of women and fellow attorney generals who have fought for what they believe in that being the right of eomen to reproductive health care.


James commented that, in the fight for reproductive rights, she and others oppose that of ‘choice…’ an indication that James sides with the belief that women whose health and lives might be at risk eoukd not receive the health care necessary for their protection.


Attorney General James stated, Abortion care is health care, and I am committed to ensuring that abortion remains accessible for New Yorkers, and that our state remains a safe haven for those seeking care.”
